MBG Taste Test: Coconut Water

Whether you just saw your yogi sipping away after Bikram class, or read about another celeb like Russell Simmons, Teri Hatcher, or Gisele Bündchen drinking it, one thing is for sure: Coconut water is all the rage these days. (If you're not familiar with coconut water you can get the scoop here).

So with three major brands in the U.S. market — Vita Coco, Zico, and O.N.E., we here at MBG decided to conduct an old-fashioned taste test.

All of these brands have a standard size of approximately 11 ounces (one coconut yields roughly 11 ounces of coconut water) and retail for about $1.50 to $3, depending on where you shop.

All were very good, but some where better than others. Here is the quick skinny:

Zico

Going in, Zico was a favorite over here at MBG. Zico tasted pure, smooth, and not too sweet. We also loved the packaging. Zico is often a big hit among yoga aficionados.

Vita Coco

Vita Coco had a nice refreshing finish. Also a favorite among celebs like Mischa Barton and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.

O.N.E.

If you have a sweet tooth, then O.N.E. is probably for you, as it's the sweetest of the three. And you're in good company, as it's also a favorite of Gisele's.

If we had to pick a winner, it's a close call between Vita Coco and Zico.
