Here at MindBodyGreen, we love to discuss (and debate) different approaches to healthy living. But one issue that we all seem to agree upon is that sugar is bad for you.
You name the ailment, and you can bet sugar plays a role in it. In fact, heart disease, cancer, dementia, type 2 diabetes, poor sleep quality, depression, acne, infertility, and impotence have all been associated with or exacerbated by sugar. Dr. Mark Hyman even compared sugar to a recreational drug.
We're always excited when those in the public eye decide to draw attention to this Public Enemy. We were intrigued to see this tweet from Kim Kardashian West, who is apparently considering cutting back on sugar:
Whats the name of that documentary about sugar? I have such a sweet tooth but I know I have to watch this and make some changes
— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) October 15, 2014
She is referencing the 2014 documentary Fed Up, which draws attention to how the food industry is actually making us sick instead of healthy. A big focus of the film is that fact that our increased sugar consumption has led to a worldwide epidemic of obesity.
It's no easy feat, especially since many sugars are hidden under sneaky names such as "sucrose," "agave," or "evaporated cane sugar."
Let's see if Kim can get with the cause — we're rooting for her! And we're rooting for you! If you'd like to quit sugar,
we've got a new course for you.
Would you attempt the Fed Up Challenge?
