7-Eleven To Start Selling Quinoa Salad, Cold-Pressed Juices
When you think of healthy food chains, 7-Eleven — the ubiquitous convenience store known for selling limp hot dogs and Doritos Loaded — almost certainly doesn't come to mind. That's about to change, though, with the chain's announcement that it will begin carrying quinoa salads, cold-pressed juices and other healthy options for the on-the-go wellness warrior.
To create the new food offerings, 7-Eleven teamed up with P90X creator Tony Horton, and the results actually sound kind of delicious. Here's what the LA Times reports:
7-Eleven is testing a quinoa salad, cold-pressed juices and more healthful food co-developed by P90X fitness program creator Tony Horton. 7-Eleven Tony Horton Kitchen products include a spicy quinoa salad with chimichurri dressing and cold-pressed juice flavors that include celery, apple, cucumber, spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, lime, lemon, wheat grass, clover sprouts and more.
Sadly, the green juices will not be available in 64-ounce Big Gulp sizes.
Five years ago it would have been impossible to imagine 7-Eleven as a purveyor of healthy choices, but this news just goes to show you how quickly tastes have changed in favor of real, unprocessed food. With a younger generation ditching fast food stalwarts like McDonald's, companies like 7-Eleven will have to adapt, or risk getting left in the proverbial dust.
Stores will also offer "a grilled chicken sandwich with blueberry mustard and a stacked roasted turkey breast sandwich, both on whole-grain bread, as well as a curried chicken salad with pomegranate raita dressing." Sounds kind of good!
What do you think of 7-Eleven's new menu items? Would you eat a quinoa salad from 7-Eleven?
