12 Ways To Make Your Home A Wellness Sanctuary
Is anyone not busy these days? I'm sure you're running around, connected 24/7, and short on time. For example, I'm writing this from 35,000 feet, on my way back from a conference at Harvard, where I dedicated some weekend down time to higher learning.
In order to balance my schedule and my wellness goals, I keep some tools at home that help me stay healthy. I'm not affiliated with any of these brands; I'm only recommending them because I use them and have found them to be helpful in my life. I hope they're helpful in yours!
I got this small kitchen aid around three years ago and it's what I use to get my nutrition as I race out of the house at 4:45am. I start the day with my favorite breakfast smoothie, a mix of superfoods, vegetables and fruits. The NutriBullet is super easy to use, and just as easy to clean.
There's a legitimate debate over which juicer is best, but I have found that the Breville works great for me; it saves me time in terms of set up, juicing and clean up. I look forward to juicing on a regular basis because I can make, enjoy, and clean up after a great green juice, all in under 20 minutes.

4. Earthing sheets and pad
At the end of my bed is a half sheet of cotton interwoven with a wire mesh that travels by a cord into a grounded plug and then the earth. The idea behind this is that earthing allows you to tap into the earth's natural energy. I have a similar pad in front of my office computer where I may get extra energy from the earth.
5. Concept2 Rower
I bought this rowing machine over a decade ago and it has held up well. I use it regularly for an intense Tabata style work out and can accomplish a total body routine hitting high heart rates in a relatively short time.
6. Yoga mat and heater
I love both a peaceful yoga studio lit with candles and Kirtan music and a hot room packed with people blasting music, but the ability to bring my practice home is necessary on rushed days. Online programs are available and provide a range of styles and intensities.
7. Acupressure mat
This new addition from Nayoya has over 6,000 pressure points that can relieve stress and back pain quickly. Although it's not a substitute for traditional acupuncture, it has been shared around my house and is getting rave reviews.
8. Essential oils USB diffuser
I was introduced to this handy device recently and it can be moved from car to office to home. You simply load it with your choice of oil and it will fill your space with healing fragrances.
9. Spice rack
I open the spice cabinet several times a day and keep the rack stocked with fresh and organic spices. Any meal can quickly attain super-nutritional status with extra turmeric, ginger, coriander, rosemary, mustard powder, nutmeg, allspice, clove, or cinnamon. Next to the spice rack is nutritional yeast, which gives so many foods a pleasant cheesy flavor while adding vitamin B12.
10. Tower garden
I have not yet completely mastered aeroponic gardening (the process of growing plants in the air rather than in soil), but picking fresh herbs and greens from this brilliantly designed device thas added flavor, freshness and fun to meals.
11. Stand up desk
Some of my favorite activities are getting work done, answering emails, and searching the web — all from an inexpensive stand-up desk in my kitchen. With all the data that sitting is associated with chronic diseases, I feel better getting off the bum whenever possible.
12. Reverse osmosis water filtration system
Another splurge to optimize the family's health was to install a house filtration system. This ensures that the water we drink, bathe in, and use for laundry was treated for a range of toxins found in tap water. The skin is so porous that bathing is as big an entry point as drinking water.
I'd love to hear what tricks you've found to add healthy rituals to your home. I look forward to adding to this list in the near future as we're on the verge of an explosion of medical monitoring devices that will provide detailed feedback on vital signs, stress levels, and nutrition to improve our health.
