What You Need To Know About Tonight's Supermoon

There's another Supermoon tonight! We're hoping for clear skies and breathtaking views as we bid summer a fond farewell.

A full moon gets "Supermoon" status when it makes an unusually close approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, resulting in a moon that looks abnormally huge. Much like last month's Supermoon on August 10, this moon will also be 30,000 miles closer to earth, and will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than normal.

Tonight's moon is also known as the Harvest Moon, due to its proximity to the autumnal equinox. Note that it's a full moon in Pisces, which shouldn't be taken lightly! Since Pisces is the most sensitive of all the astrological water signs, watch out for the lunar tug on your emotions. Use the energy of this full moon to your advantage, or it can wreak havoc on your psyche.

A big thanks to the folks over at The Guardian, who put together this comprehensive breakdown about the history and background of the moon.
