Basketball superstar LeBron James has dropped about 12 pounds after cutting out carbohydrates from his diet, according to a wide range of reports on the Cleveland Cavaliers forward. The two-time NBA champion was apparently inspired by former teammate Ray Allen's adoption of the Paleo diet, and the results are already visible. See for yourself:
Conventional wisdom says that as James gets older and racks up more minutes competing at an elite level, he'll need to pay close attention to his diet and weight if he wants to make it through the grueling NBA season. And it sounds like he's doing just that!
For his part, 39-year-old Allen has credited the Paleo diet with keeping him light on his feet as his career winds down, telling CBS Sports, "When you start eating the salads and the proteins and fruits — in Whole Foods, I kill the fruit and vegetables section — you just feel so much fresher and cleaner." Stars like Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose, Steve Nash and others also have become more conscious of their diet choices in recent years. Carmelo in particular looks like a slimmer, sleeker version of his previous doughy shape:
Whatever you think of James' diet, it's nice that a major American athlete is bringing widespread attention to the important role diet plays in overall health and performance. What do you think of LeBron's decision? Is it worth it? Is it the right move? Let us know!
