When it comes to planning a trip (or even just dreaming of one), go big or stay home. Thankfully, the newly released 2014 Travel + Leisure awards are out to help us make some tough travel decisions.
This year, there were some major upsets, with a few old favorites and a couple of up-and-coming surprises making the cut!
Last year's top pick, Bangkok, is noticeably absent from the list. Other popular destinations like Cape Town and Paris are also missing this year. So what did make this list? And which city is the TOP travel destination of 2014?
Without further ado, here they are:
The top cities to visit in 2014:
10. New Orleans, USA
9. Mexico City, Mexico
8. Barcelona, Spain
7. Seville, Spain
6. Istanbul, Turkey
5. Rome, Italy
4. Siem Reap, Cambodia
3. Florence, Italy
2 Charleston, South Carolina, USA
1. Kyoto, Japan
Kyoto, the former imperial capital of Japan, is located on Japan's largest and most populous island, Honshu and has long been known as the country's most beautiful city. No doubt the Imperial Palace and its gardens, the gorgeous temples and the city's cherry blossoms helped it earn this year's top spot.
