The powerful practice I'm about to share with you is an absolute game-changer. It will take you to a whole other level, in all aspects of your life, including your career, relationships, school studies, fitness, and creative expression.
Long before there was Tony Robbins or The Secret, the great masters spoke of the power of the mind and the importance of the thoughts that we think. The Buddha said, "All that we are is a result of what we have thought." Jesus taught, "As a Man thinketh so he becometh."
In India, the mind is often compared to an elephant. An untrained elephant can destroy an entire village, just like an untrained mind can destroy an entire human's life. On the flip side, a trained elephant can do the work of a thousand men or women, just like a trained mind can benefit all of humanity. Our thoughts can be our greatest ally, or our greatest enemy.
A couple thousand years ago the yogis documented a powerful technique in "The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali" that might be one of the most important tools that we should put into practice. This tool is called Pratipaksha Bhavana. It means:
"When the mind is disturbed by a negative thought, replace it with a positive thought." (Book 2, Sutra 33)
We pay a great deal of attention to pollution within our environment and our bodies, but what about pollution within our minds? If we allow negativity to run rampant through our minds, then we will live a life of misery.
BUT if we can spin our negative thoughts into positive ones, then we can start to trigger a chain of events that is truly life-changing! Our thoughts trigger our actions, our actions trigger our habits, our habits trigger our personality, and our personality triggers our present reality. Read that again!
EVERYTHING traces back to the thoughts that we allow to move through our minds. If you're interested in altering your present reality, then shift your thoughts.
I challenge you for the next seven days to put this ancient practice into action! Anytime a negative thought arises, immediately replace it with a positive one. Feel free to use affirmations, mantras, prayers ... whatever it takes to make the switch, to change your mental station.
It might not be easy, and it might actually be very confrontational at times, but can you think of anything more important than being in control of your own mind? Join the great company of incredible giants like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., and Helen Keller, and make Pratipaksha Bhavana part of your daily practice!
