Women wage a silent war against their own bodies. The weapons are the insults and criticisms in their heads, which is why I'm on a mission in 2014 to get women to STOP the war and LOVE THEIR BODIES. Yes, I am talking to YOU.
Can you decide right here, right now to stop the war you have with the one and only place you live? YOUR BODY. You can love your body even if you're on a journey to improve it. Change is more likely to happen if it begins in a positive place. Your journey to be the healthiest you can be enjoyable when you're kind to yourself during the process. Make this the year you live from a place of acceptance and love. It all starts with your thoughts.
What are your thoughts about your body? Try these steps to love your body this year!
1. Recognize what you love.
I'm sure there is something about your body that you like or love right now. Are there a few things? Do you ever think about the positive aspects of your body that you love? Make a list of the things you love about your body. Focus on those things. Maybe it’s your strong legs or your curvy shape. Maybe it’s something your body can do. Whatever it is, notice it and see if you can build the love by finding more things you love about your body and expanding your list. One way to keep the love for your body going is to stay plugged in to the positive. Share with me what you love about your body. Share a photo, too, if you are so inclined!
2. Set a good example.
If you have kids, you know they're watching what you do and what you say to yourself. They see how you treat your body. Whether you have children or not, you can set a positive example for those around you by how you treat your body, what face you make in the mirror, and what choices you make. Treat your body like you LOVE it, and soon you will start to LOVE it!
3. Acknowledge what your body can do.
Our bodies can protect us from diseases and illness. Our bodies can heal from injuries and disease. Our bodies can compete in triathlons or walk 10,000 steps a day. Our bodies can produce life or help save other lives. Our bodies are extraordinary. Think about the power of your body and what it does for you. What amazing things have you done with your one and only body?
4. Give yourself compliments.
I already mentioned accepting compliments from others, but how often do you compliment yourself? Simple compliments can make you feel empowered and confident. Develop a habit of feeling the love with compliments—especially those you give yourself, like:
I look good today.
I feel strong.
I can feel yesterday’s workout.
I am developing more muscle.
I like my body.
I have more endurance.
I feel fit.
I am at peace with my body.
I am on my own side.
Every compliment you give yourself is a deposit into your own well-being and outlook. Don’t underestimate the influence you have on your own self-image. Every positive thought counts. Start replacing every negative thought you have with a compliment this year. Watch how your life can change when you have the strength and courage to LOVE YOUR BODY! Yes you can!
