7 No-Nonsense Tips For Eating Healthy

We all know that providing our bodies with nutrient dense foods full of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals will help our bodies detoxify, heal, and lose weight in the process. However, it seems easier said than done. Though the task can seem daunting, here are seven tips on how to get started eating a healthy diet.

1. Divide your body weight in pounds by two, then drink that many ounces of water each day.

Proper hydration helps keep the body healthy by keeping the cells hydrated and protected. Plus, it aids the body in eliminating toxins and waste. Adequate hydration also helps alleviate many symptoms, such as fatigue, headaches or joint pain.

2. Eat plenty of vegetables.

A no brainer, but one we all fall short on. Vegetables are very high in fiber, vitamin C, folic acid and many minerals. They help slow down the absorption of fat and toxins, and help keep cholesterol and blood pressure down.

3. Avoid ALL hydrogenated oils.

This includes fried foods. It's hydrogenated oils that turn into trans fats, and it's the trans fats that can contribute to heart disease.

4. Avoid refined sugar.

Refined sugar increases insulin and adrenal hormone production. It can make pain and inflammation worse. Sugar feeds yeast and other one-cell organisms that can replace the beneficial flora in the gut.

5. Avoid grains.

Besides the obvious one (gluten), grains also contain lectins and phytic acids. Lectins can negatively affect digestion, contributing to “leaky gut,” and phytic acid binds to minerals in the food, preventing your body from absorbing them efficiently.

6. Avoid chemical additives.

Found in processed foods, many of the added chemicals may contribute to birth defects, infertility, cancer, behavior problems, depression and headaches, to name a few.

7. Eat slowly and chew your food.

Chewing food slowly and into small, liquid pieces, will help your body digest food more easily. By not chewing your food, you're stressing your digestive system, which can lead to problems such as gas, bloating and the growth of harmful bacteria in the digestive tract.

There are many other steps you can take to healthy eating, but applying these 7 steps will be on your way. If it still seems to overwhelming, start with one step and work your way down the list.
