You LOVE your friends and family bunches, but after spending all day with them, they morph into energy vampires! These creatures will leave you completely drained after spending a day with them. They don’t have to be loved ones. They can be anywhere: crowded malls, concerts, ACK!
I hate to break it to you, but crosses, garlic and calling your nearest vampire slayer won’t help you combat these creatures.
The main issue with energy vampires is that we blame them for draining us. Therein lies the problem.
The bottom line is that each one of us has the power to practice some energy hygiene and guard our energetic space so we don’t pick up and get drained by the energy of others. Here are a few tactics to help you do that.
1. Set your chakras.
Quantum mechanics teaches us that we're all connected through energy. We have chakras or energetic centers that work with our thoughts, beliefs and emotions to manifest our physical experience. We can run our chakras wide open like completely bloomed flowers or completely closed.
A lot of women and healers have a tendency to run their chakras wide open, especially, the 2nd chakra, Hand Chakras and the Crown Chakra. When this happens, our own energy leaks out and makes room for others, and that's why you feel drained!
Good news! You can set your chakras at certain percentage so this doesn’t happen. Here they are:
3rd: 45% for men, 55% for women
5th: As wide open as you can
7th: 25-50%, 25% if you have problems sleeping at night
You can set these chakras by simply bossing them around in the AM or using imagery to imagine they are set at these levels. Reset your chakras throughout the day as often as you need to.
2. Set boundaries in your aura.
The other primary component of your energy body is your aura. If you extend your arms out to the sides like a T, it extends as far out as your fingertips, it’s two feet above your head and two feet below your feet! It’s in front of you and in back of you. You have seven layers of your aura, which correspond to your seven chakras. It’s super important to set boundaries in your aura so other energies don’t come in. Here's how:
- Imagine you have an ice cream machine above your head
- Pull down the lever and imagine you can form the seven layers; the outermost layer extends as far out as your fingertips.
Again, get into a morning practice of setting your boundaries and resetting throughout the day as you need to.
3. Know that it might be time to find some like minds.
You can do your internal work to guard your energetic space but there are external considerations to ponder when It comes to your energy vampires:
- Are you constantly giving in these relationships and not receiving?
- Is the Debbie Downer to Positive Paula ratio for these people super high?
- Do you feel like these people not only drain you but “feel heavy” and bring you down?
If you answered yes to some of those questions, note that it may be a sign that you're growing and evolving and these people are not.
We have one life to live, so it’s best to spend it with like minds and relationships that have reciprocity, where you can grow and evolve together. To find your peeps who can meet you where you are now, do the feel-good activities that nourish you and guarantee you'll conquer fewer energy vampires than ever before.
I hope these techniques helped you! Let me know which ones you are going to try and whether they worked for you!
