Gluten-Free Recipe: Breakfast Blend Espresso Oatmeal

Oats are an inexpensive heart healthy meal or snack to incorporate into your day. They're a great way to start the day because they're a complex carbohydrate and contain protein, which means they help keep your glucose levels balanced and fill you up. Those two aspects also make it a great grain for losing weight.

Oatmeal has been advertised for years as a heart healthy meal. Those heart healthy benefits are true when eating whole oats or raw oats, stay clear of the instant oatmeal they are packed with sugar, and artificial ingredients.

Here's a recipe that will help you get the wonderful benefits of oats at the beginning of your day. Make sure your oats are labeled "gluten free" if you want to avoid trace gluten in this recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 2 C. organic oats
  • 1/2 C. organic cacao nibs
  • ¼ C. organic flaxseed
  • ¼ C. organic dark chocolate chips
  • ¼ C. organic raw almonds
  • 1Tbs. organic espresso powder
  • 1Tbs. organic coconut oil
  • 1 Tbs. organic raw honey

Directions:

Mix oats, cacao nibs, chocolate chips, flaxseed, espresso, and almonds together.

Use a double boiler to liquefy the coconut oil and honey and mix together.

Stir in the coconut oil and honey. This can be used on top of coconut yogurt, dairy-free ice cream, smoothies, or just in a bowl by itself.
