Tropical Summer Smoothie Recipe

Pineapple, coconut milk and banana create the base for this protein packed, guilt-free pina colada. Chia and hemp add protein, your daily dose of omega-3s, and antioxidants. Pineapple contains bromelain, which neutralizes fluids to ensure that they're not too acidic. Bromelian also helps with inflammation and aids in digestion. This makes a perfectly refreshing afternoon pick-me-up on a hot summer day.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 4 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons hemp hearts
  • 2 tablespoons coconut flakes
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 cups pineapple
  • a squeeze of lime
  • ice

Directions:

First, soak the chia in coconut water (to enhance bio-availability and hydrate the lower GI).

Place all ingredients in blender or Vitamix and blend on high until smooth. Add ice and blend a few more seconds.

Freeze half in an un-lidded mason jar for an easy grab-and-go meal or snack later in the week.

Serves two.
