We live in our bodies every day and a little love can go a long way. Yet some of us loathe our looks, somehow believing that we are not lean enough or firm enough (insert your insecurity here). But guess what, your body is yours, so you might as well love it. Are you ready?
Here are 5 exercises to practice body love:
1. Be Grateful
We take our bodies for granted. How often do you practice gratitude for having toes, legs, arms, fingers and your internal organs? It might sound silly but some people aren’t as lucky. So spend a few moments to take stock of how lucky you are to have each of your limbs and appendages (and more).
2. Wash Every Inch
When you’re in the shower do you neglect your shins? How often do you wash your belly button or behind your ears? Next time you’re in the shower, spend a little extra time to lather up and wash, then rinse, every inch that you can reach. This gets rid of old skin cells and helps you connect with your body.
3. Moisturize Everywhere
After washing every inch in the shower, take time to apply lotion to the entire body. Moisturize everything from your shoulders to the soles of your feet. Resist the temptation to rush and apply your lotion with a loving touch. Express gratitude for your body as you replenish your skin.
4. Gaze Lovingly in the Mirror
Before you hurry to put on your clothes, take a moment to adore the reflection of your beautiful body. Start giving yourself approval as you lovingly observe yourself from head to toe. Don’t be shy, take time to appreciate. If you hear your negative self-critic, take a deep breath and counter any critique with a compliment.
5. Dress to Impress
Take an extra moment to put together an outfit that feels right. Without being too picky, try to wear pieces of clothing that help you feel good. Get rid of items that don’t fit, whether they are too big or too small, to avoid self-consciousness and fussing. Once you pick your outfit, say out loud: “I feel good.” Most importantly, wear a sense of self-confidence; it’s the best accessory available.
