5 Mind-Blowing Dance Videos
In an ideal world, I'd be bouncing and spinning around at least half the time. Dance feeds our soul, brings us home to ourselves, and generally makes us feel amazing. Alas, the vast majority of us spend way too much time sitting at the computer, because there are things to be done in the world beyond wondering at the marvel of every moment. So! When you've been stuck at your desk for too long and the feeling of being rapturously alive in your body has dwindled into a distant memory (of foreign concept!), use these videos as a lifeline to your embodied self, a spark of inspiration and reminder that you, too, are made of movement. 1. Break ton Neck: This is one of my favorite examples of just how much the human vehicle is capable of. Ok, so his joints are extra flexi, but other than that he's got a body just like yours. The only other differences? He tried. He practiced, a lot. And then he picked out a DOPE song, rented out a weird storefront and sprinkled broken glass on the floor.
2. Official Trailer: Girl Walk//All Day: For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of catching a screening of Girl Walk // All Day, it's a feature-length music video created around Girl Talk's 2010 album, and it is a party in a box. Or a screen. Whatever, it's awesome. And yes, the transition from ballet school to real, actually fun and celebratory expression hits extra close to home, and makes me extra happy.
3. See-Through Time by Skytree, Featuring David Elsewhere: Skytree is a young psychedelic nomad of a music producer, who makes beats that sound like you're feeling your way through a trippy forest. Fitting, then, that he made this video featuring legendary illusionary dancer David Elsewhere, integrating sound, movement, visual graphics, and nature. And yes, David's videos deserve their own post. This one is extra spectacular.
4. TURF FEINZ "RIP RichD" YAK FILMS DANCING in the RAIN DANSE SOUS LA PLUIE HIPHOP STREET: Oakland crew Turf Feinz helped bring Turf Dancing to the masses with their videos, ushering in a gorgeous, spontaneous style of street dancing.
5. Murmuration (Official Video) by Sophie Windsor Clive & Liberty Smith: A reminder that dance is everywhere, in everything, when you look for it. What if we were in touch with the part of our aliveness that knows this kind of intelligence? What if we had access to it all the time?
