Actress Goldie Hawn is working with British officials to set up a state school in Britain which "would promote meditation as a way of boosting knowledge."
Goldie's 'MindUP' teaching program, which she promotes through her charity The Hawn Foundation, is already used in over 1,000 schools in the U.S. and Canada and aims to improve concentration and incorporates eastern meditation. The curriculum is designed for children from K to 7 and includes fifteen lessons across four units which include titles such as "Quieting the Mind: Sharpening the Focus" and "Mindful of Ourselves in the World."
The sixty-four-year-old who classifies herself as "Jewish-Buddhist" says, "We need to rethink our whole approach to classroom education, integrating neuroscience with the latest social and emotional learning techniques. A peaceful, happy child is the first step toward a peaceful world."
