MBG Taste Test: Organic Tortilla Chip Throwdown

Casa Sanchez, Xochitl, Garden of Eatin', and Kettle Compete for the Crown

Who doesn't love a good tortilla chip, especially when it's organic and coupled with some organic guacamole and kombucha or coconut water?  Let's get to the throwdown and see what brand of chips comes out on top:

Ingredients: All these chips are either certified USDA organic (95%+ organic ingredients) or made with at least 70% organic ingredients.
Calories: Roughly the same at 140 calories per 1oz serving.
Price: You're looking at $3-$4 per bag depending on where you shop for these brands.

Now that we've got ingredients, calories, and price covered, let's get back to the throwdown:

Garden of Eatin' Organic Blue Corn Chips:
Garden of Eatin' is one of the better known brands on the market and they make a very good chip.  Good combination of crispness, flavor, and thickness.  If you prefer blue chips over yellow corn or white, then this one is tough to beat.

Kettle Yellow Organic Tortilla Chips:
The makers of the delicious Kettle potato chips bring us a tortilla chip that's thick enough for dipping and has a very nice texture. Good salt ratio as well.

Xochitl Organic White Corn Chips:  If you like a thin chip then Xochitl might be for you. If you like to dip your tortilla chips in guacamole then this probably isn't a good choice as the chips are very thin and tend to break when dipping.

Casa Sanchez Organic Tortilla Chips:
The chip from this Bay Area stalwart is thick, crispy, and has just the right amount of salt.  Delicious and also perfect for dipping.  Pure organic tortilla chip-bliss.

The Winner:
All the chips were pretty darn good but there was one brand that stood above the rest, Casa Sanchez.  With that said, I'd still be more than happy to munch on all of the above any day of the week -- and twice on Sunday.
