Let’s be honest: There is senseless tragedy in the world. We see it all the time. And it can be almost impossible to feel calm or even hopeful about peace when things seem to be falling apart.

In the wake of the horrible tragedy in Florida, we are being forced, yet again, to recognize and deal with heartbreaking destruction, hatred, and fear. But there is hope. It is possible to heal.

If you are overwhelmed by negativity right now, tune your attention to love. Focus on the sources of love you have access to, and send love and light to others. Focus on letting love lead the way.

If you need a mantra for those darkest moments, these inspiring quotes are a beautiful place to start:

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

― Martin Luther King, Jr.

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”

―Jimi Hendrix

“You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will live as one.”

―John Lennon

“Don't gain the world and lose your soul. Wisdom is better than silver or gold.”

―Bob Marley

"Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding."

―Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.”

―Albert Schweitzer

“It is not enough to win a war; it is more important to organize the peace.”

―Aristotle

"World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just mere absence of violence. Peace is, I think, the manifestation of human compassion."

―Dalai Lama XIV

“There is peace even in the storm.”

―Vincent van Gogh
