Gisele Clarifies Sunscreen Comments

As we reported earlier, Gisele Bundchen had made comments about sunscreen that ruffled some feathers: "I cannot put this poison on my skin... I do not use anything synthetic." Well, Gisele took to her blog to clarify by posting the following:

Hi all

I would like to clarify the misunderstanding about the use of sunblock. I do use sunblock but also I try my best not to be exposed to the sun when it is too strong. My line of skincare products are all natural and do not contain SPF. I feel we all need to pay more attention to what we are putting on our skin. I definitely know the importance of using sunscreen and I try to look for more natural options. This is a place where they have a list of some more natural option sunscreens, check it out here.
Gisele's publicist Amber Clapp, added, telling StyleList:
Gisele would never say not to use sunscreen because she has had family members who have had skin cancer. She simply stated that her all-natural skin-care line does not have SPF because there is not an all natural SPF available....When using sunscreens, she selects ones that are free of parabens, oxybenzone, PABA and retinyl palmitate.
Though this is definitely a better statement as Gisele recommends some natural options, we think it's great that she's drawing attention to natural skin care. I definitely think skin care needs more attention. I think (and hope) that there's more coming down the pipeline with regards to natural skin care as it was a 2011 trend to watch.

What do you think about Gisele's clarification and the state of skin care in America?
