What You Say About Others Says a Lot About You
You might want to zip it next time you think about gossiping: a new study suggests that what you say about others can reveal how "happy, kind-hearted, and emotionally stable" you are. Dustin Wood, the lead author of the study, tells Science Daily:
Seeing others positively reveals our own positive traits... A huge suite of negative personality traits are associated with viewing others negatively... The simple tendency to see people negatively indicates a greater likelihood of depression and various personality disorders.Even if the person you're describing does indeed have negative characteristics, the study suggests that if you still describe this person in a negative manner that you might be "unhappy, disagreeable, neurotic -- or have other negative personality traits."
Ouch! I'll definitely think twice before gossiping next time!
