MindBodyGreen: How do you start your day? What do you typically eat for breakfast?
Katrina & Karena: We both wake up pretty early to get a morning workout in before the rush of the day begins. For breakfast we make a smoothie with Almond Milk, Banana, Agave, and a scoop of Boku Superfood.
MBG: What's a typical workout for you?
K & K: Some sort of cardio 4-5 days a week. We like to mix it up to keep things interesting. Cardio could be anything from running, cycling, surfing, swimming, hiking, or even walking. We also include 3 days of body weight training usually at our studio or on the beach, and two days of yoga.
MBG: What's your favorite exercise move?
K & K: We have a move called the "Tone It Up Tummy Tuck with a Tricep Push-up with a Row Kickback". It's a great combo move that slims the waistline, tones the shoulders, and backs of the arms all in one move! We did a video with this move that can be seen here.
MBG: If you only had 15 minutes a day to workout, what would you do?
K & K: HITT! High Intensity Interval Training is great when you are short on time. HITT workouts consist of burst of high intensity activity combined with a short period of lower intensity. When you allow your energy systems to regenerate so you can continue with the high intensity activity. This is a very demanding workout, but great for producing results! MBG: It's bikini season... Any diet/workout tips/advice for someone who wants to get abs?
K & K: We always tell our clients that proper nutrition is 90% of fat loss! We are not about low carb diets or starvation, so we created a nutrition plan that's available on our site that's based on what we eat to be lean and be full of energy!
MBG: You're both very busy... how do you wind down after a long day?
K & K: Yes, we are often running around like crazy all day. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful area and to wind down we enjoy a sunset walk at the beach followed by a nice glass of red wine!
MBG: What's your diet secret to eating healthy?
K & K: Balance. Never go to one extreme or the other. Finding a balance in all areas of your life from fitness, diet, work, friends, family, and solo time. A balance in all these areas are all important to live a healthy and happy life.
MBG: Favorite healthy food?
K & K: Kale. It's the most nutrient dense food and can be prepared many different ways. We just started making our own kale chips, which are delicious!
MBG: Guilty food indulgence?
K & K: Wine and Chocolate. But we don't really for guilty for that :).
MBG: What are you currently working on?
K & K: We just opened our first fitness studio in Hermosa Beach, CA and are launching our first DVD of the 'Tone It Up' DVD series in September. We are also part of the new Jane Fonda project called 'Workout: Fonda Team'. It's a series of products and DVDs launching in January 2011.
